Derya Yükselay - Şehit Demet Sezen GAIHHS / Ankara OUR TASK: SOIL HEALTH TEST – I SEE IT WITH MY OWN EYES Observe an area in the school garden to determine whether the soil is healthy or at risk. What to do 1️⃣ Select a small area in the school garden (under a tree, at the edge of the grass, etc.). 2️⃣ Observe without touching the soil. 3️⃣ Answer the following questions with Yes or No: Is there rubbish in the soil? Are there plants in the soil? Is there a bad smell? Is the soil very dry and cracked? Is there any sign of human impact? 4️⃣ If there are two or more negative answers, assess the soil as ‘at risk’. 5️⃣ Complete the following sentence: ‘The soil in this area is ... because ...’ Our students made observations around their neighbourhood. Then wrote a short article about their observations with the photos of soil that they had examined.
